“Sandarkan Pada Kenangan” – the second best Malay pop song of the 1980s

Fauziah (Ogy) Ahmad Daud & Jamal Abdillah (in 1984)
Siti Sarah Raisuddin & Jamal Abdillah in (April 2003)

Sandarkan Pada Kenangan (dari filem Azura)
(Words and lyrics: M Nasir)
[Note: chords are approximate, Capo 1, unfortunately I cant align the chords exactly to the lyrics due to the way blogger does the postings :-( , so I've abandoned by little transcribing project]

[Jamal]
Kenangan manis kau dan aku
Takkan terluput
Duri ranjau dalam bercinta
Lumrah dunia

[Duet]
C#m? G#m?
Sayang menyayang
Cinta dikenang
Perasaan menjadi rindu

[Siti Sarah]
Oh…
Lihatlah diriku yang kehilangan
Tanpa kasih mu sayang
Siapalah aku

[Jamal?]
Sayang menyayang
Saling percaya
Punca kasih berpanjangan

[Jamal]
F B A F
Mengapa kita harus bersengketa
[Siti Sarah]
A B A F
Kerana fitnah dan salah sangka
[Jamal]
Apa yang telah terjadi pada kenangan
[Siti Sarah]
Sememangnya aku tak pernah melupakannya
[Jamal]
Mengapa mesti ada perasaan benci
[Siti Sarah]
Kerana cinta dan percaya luput dalam perasaan

[Duet]
Marilah kasih
Kita saling sayang menyayang
Kalaulah ada benci
Kita sandarkan pada kenangan

[after this i think there's an interval, followed by the "lihatlah diriku yg kehilangan" part..., then follow on till end]

My review: 19 year old song given new lease of life my Malaysian King of Pop, Jamal Abdillah and newcomer Siti Sarah Raisuddin,18. Originally dueted with Fauziah Ahmad Daud. Part of Jamal’s compilation album entitled Raja Pop. Another soundtrack to the 1984 film entitled Azura also made it to this album. The song is unsurprisingly entitled Azura. Both are written by the great M Nasir himself, although I have to say that Nasir’s better off retiring now – he’s way past his peak. This song is one of the best Malay songs of the 80s, and one of my all-time favourites, probably the 2nd best 80s Malay pop song after Freedom’s “masihkah ada esok”. Seems like many people agree with me, since it’s now no.1 on the ERA charts. One question, why is everyone with named Fauziah automatically uses the nickname Ogy? Or Uji? Heck, even Fauziah Latiff also uses it.
