Update 16 June 2010:

I first read on Twitter around 8 pm that the Sultan has divorced her and all her titles revoked.

Update 25th Aug 2005:

According to The Star/Utusan Malaysia (24th Aug 2005) and various online sources: it was love at first sight for the Sultan.

Altogether now: “OOOOooohhhhhhhhh…..”

Close friends of Azrinaz told the daily that the Sultan fell in love with her when she went to Brunei two years ago on a news assignment. “During the event, the Sultan of Brunei glanced at Azrinaz and immediately fell in love. After that, he kept watching her read the news on TV3,” said her friend.

Azrinaz won TV3′s most promising journalist award in 2000, was reading the morning and afternoon Buletin news before she resigned last May.

Azrinaz,26 gets hitched to the man himself, formerly the richest man on the planet, the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah,58 after the latter divorced his 2nd wife in Feb 2003 after almost 24 years of marriage. The Sultan married Mariam, formerly known as Mariam Bell, a Brunei-Japanese-Scottish ex-flight attendant in Oct 1981 and they had 4 children.

Not content with that, his ex-2nd wife, Mariam Abdul Aziz’s royal titles were all withdrawn.

Filepic of Mariam taken in 1999, courtesy of cnn.com:

Azrinaz was never picked by TV3 to read the main primetime news at 8pm, but rather less glamorous slots like Berita Terkini.

Norman KRU and even Khairy Jamaluddin was once romantically linked to her.

According to Utusan Malaysia on 6th Aug, they were introduced when the ex-newscaster was covering the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Brunei last year

What motivates a man to marry a woman 32 years his junior? According to unconfirmed sources she’s already pregnant, hence the rush. If that’s true, then she’s bearing his 11th child.

She resigned from TV3 in May, citing the need to “try other activities.”

But his first wife, married in 1967 is still queen.

trivia:
at least you know her car number – WMS 71. She won it after tendering for RM2K.

already pregnant..??? what..?? that means they ‘did’ it out of wedlock..?? and a sultan cant do that because he is the ruler of a muslim nation… but who cares.. lots of other emirs, sheikhs, sultans, VVIPs do the same thing… but how come the secretly guarded wedding ceremony was leaked to the press..???? in that case.. i can make paulina porizkova or cindy crawford or linda evangelista or kate moss or naomi campbell or aishwarya rai or hillary clinton pregnant and marry one of em and be an instant millionaire too…!!!

I do not want to dragged to court..please note that I wrote “unconfirmed sources.” Please do not take it as fact.

In this day and age, it’s impossible to keep anything secret anymore. What happens on the other side of the world will be public knowledge in a matter of minutes. Just ask Faria Alam..opps..why did I pick her as an example?

Well, if Cris Judd can do it with Jenny from the Block (did i get that right?), why not you?

And I am very disappointed that you mention Hillary Clinton. The rest ok lah. You interested in Slick Willy Bill’s wife??????

they did NOt get married because she was pregnant because their 1st born only arrived about 9 or more months later.

she lacks the charm and most importantly the GRACE that comes with being in a royal family. whereas hjh mariam was widely accepted & even loved by the people. bruneians have never been able to accept azrinaz, sorry to say, even the Sultan’s siblings never accepted her. everyone suspects she’s only in it for the money. and she spends money too much (especially for someone who just joined the family), even her malaysian family had the nerve to send a B$3million bill to the bruneian embassy.

that being said, the people are very happy to hear this news (although it’s sad for the 2 young kids) and they count it as a blessing and thank Allah that she is finally out of the picture.

if the sources are unconfirmed, then why you raise up the issue?
you are spreading gossip and it will remain in readers head.
lets say “some unofficial reports said that pinolobu is a child out of wedlock, not because of premature birth. It is said to save pinolobu’s mother’s hounour. It later added that pinolobu was not actually the child of his father on the birth certificate, but the mother’s long lost high school lover. However anybody who reports this claim was unavailable for confirmation.”
anyway what is your intention to let the heading be “a lesson to malaysian women”? is it being ironic? is it a role model?
my king is still human. what he differs from other leaders is he cares so much for us bruneians. i being an ordinary subject had once a short chat with his majesty, and he began the conversation. and not asking how was my day. but asking if im employed, and where. he cared for even a dude like me. we bruneians know him better.
i know u are practising the freedom of speech. i support and respect you, ONLY if it leads to truth and actually news.
