Good reads for online business tips.

halimhazlin.com smells like Akmal Ariff’s dodgy tsunamiwang. My impression is that the website looks unprofessional, and too much emphasis on the money side of things (see “kejayaan kami“), rather than on the “love of the product”.
Probably the contents of his CD (on how to start a home-based mail order business) is already available elsewhere, under a different title, by a different author. Possibly C&P-ed content too.
A better deal is this, if it’s that good: let me see the CD, if I like it, I’ll pay for it, no questions asked, no need upfront payment.

and

http://ibank.barclaysco.com/olb/q/LoginMember.do
look similar.
The latter (phishers’ website) is still accessible at the time of writing.
Guidelines on smelling the fish (pun intended):
- banks will never ask for sensitive details by email. Barclays reiterated this point on its website. It’s almost funny that the phisher’s website links directly to Barclay’s security caution.
- banks will never simply send emails to anybody - if ever they send mail to you, it’s because you have an account with them. And if so, see rule 1.
- check with the bank website if there’s any warning. In Barclay’s case, it’s here.
- check online for news about such scam. in this case, searching via google should be a good start. A good example is this article at zincweb.co.uk.
- difference in domain name as compared to the original. In Barclay’s case, it’s barclays.co.uk turned into barclaysco.com
- login pages of banks are encrypted (https, with a reputable CA like Verisign). The fake site for Barclays is not. That means any information you filled in there can be read by anybody. Would you want that?
Sometimes it’s difficult to tell, if your browser is not updated.
To me personally, Zulkifli’s website does not look professional at all - too many fonts, unattractive layout, banal design etc.
Does that matter? Yes, it put me off totally.

Like these 2 ladies are doing, plus my own comparison of the two:
- Ramona Ali
- better at
flaunting her qualifications marketing herself
- been doing translations professionally since 2000
- overall, charges dearer
- can do 3500 words per day
- Sophia Jusoff
- more modest
- been around longer (since 1997)
- overall, charges cheaper
- can do max 2500 words per day
So I suppose that if you want to go for it, you’d have to charge less than USD0.10 (about 40 sen) per word, and name your site cheaptranslation.com
