The world’s most complicated watch

The maker of some watches in Japan is trying to make it as difficult as possible to tell the time. Can you tell me what time is being shown by the following watches? And yes, they are real watches, and you can even order them online.

Give up? It’s showing 10:25.

If you think that’s complicated (personally I’d call it the Predator’s watch, like the self-destruct timer the alien in the movie wore), try telling the time from this watch, where even the website selling it says that it is “stranger than your mother-in-law”:

I give up too!

P.S. I wouldn’t be surprised if it even has gps tracking built-in.

There are 12 lights to indicate hour (the first 3 rows; 4 lights on each row). In the pic above, there are 10 lights in this area, hence 10 o’clock.

Then on the 4th row, the first light indicates “quarter past”, the 2nd “half past” and the 3rd “quarter to”. In the pic above, the first light is lit, hence “half past” i.e. 15 minutes.

The next 14 lights are for additional minutes. In the pic above, the first 10 lights are lit in that area.

Hence, total minutes is 15+10=25. Hence, the watch is showing 10:25.

The last 3 lights show the seconds ticking by.

As you can see, the watch face has some subtle dark grey markings which distinguish the borderline between hours, minutes & seconds.
